The Studio & The Philosophy
The Tea & Yoga Society was founded in 1997 by a group of women attending Jennifer Durand’s classes. Seeking more connection and depth, the "regulars" began meeting after class once a week. This led to customized movement practices, the study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, engaging conversations and the creation of some darn good chai.
Jennifer’s unique classes are taught in a comfortable and small studio space that allows her to seamlessly integrate several different aspects of holistic fitness– asana (movement), pranayama (breathing exercises), and philosophy. This approach benefits body, breath and mind.
Yoga and Healing are not one size fits all, and must always be customized, even in a group class. Yoga is for the mind as well as the body, and both must be taken into consideration as a lesson unfolds.
Jennifer believes the goal of yoga— feeling better— is accomplished through the 6 cornerstones of her philosophical system: compassion and independence, adaptability and resilience, ease and letting go.
Through the understanding and integration of these 6 concepts, every one of her students learns to find and eliminate their personal sources of suffering. The outcome? They feel better!
Classes are good-natured and non-competitive.
